Hey guys, it has been a such a long time since my last drama review. Lately, I have been into Japanese dramas and I've decided to share a review of one of the dramas that I recently came across and really enjoyed watching!
Watashi Wo Morratte is a 16-episode Japanese fantasy drama based on a Korean webtoon "Take Me, I'm Yours", starring Maeda Goki and Kubota Sayu. This drama tells the story about two individuals who becomes intertwined by fate under unusual circumstances. Ichijo Ryoei (portrayed by actor Maeda Goki) is the managing director of a family conglomerate company - Enbeat, and Morikawa Natsumi (portrayed by actress Kubota Sayu) is an ordinary woman. This drama is split into two parts (with 8 episodes in each parts) - the first part is known as the 'memory arc' (tsuioku hen), and the second part is the 'romance arc' (koiji hen).

The 'Memory Arc' (Tsuioku Hen)
The story begins with Ryoei who is being framed for trading company secret and on his way back home one day, he got into a car accident and went into a coma. On the same day, Natsumi was involved in another accident where a Daruma (a Japanese traditional doll) fell on her and she went into a coma. Two weeks later, Natsumi miracously wakes up from her coma, with no memory of what happened during the time she had lost her conciousness. When Natsumi returns home from the hospital, Ryoei, who is now a wandering spirit, visits Natsumi at her house and asks her to help him to track down the culprit who was behind his car accident. Although she was intially reluctant to help Ryoei, she agreed in the end after Ryoei told her that he is the reason she woke up from her coma because he had agreed to trade places with her when they were both in the realm between the living and dead, while they were both in a coma. However, Ryoei hid a secret from Natsumi, and that is the fact that they fell in love when they met at the realm and he agreed to trade places with her, allowing Natsumi to wake up from her coma. In return, the Grim Reaper agreed to send Ryoei back to the living realm as a spirit for 49 days, while he awaits the order on whether he will live or die. With the help of Ryoei, Natsumi managed to get into Enbeat as an office worker, and she began investigating what happened to Ryoei. Although Ryoei had hidden the fact that they had fell in love, Natsumi found herself falling for Ryoei again. However, when they confirmed their feelings for each other, Natsumi found out that Ryoei only has 49 days and he might wake up with no memory of her, or die.
The 'Romance Arc' (Koiji Hen)
In the second part of the drama, Ryoei finally wakes up from his coma. However, he has no memory of Natsumi and what happened while he was in a coma. In this timeline, he is back to his cold self and is currently engaged to a young and pretty lawyer, Mari, who is the niece of one of the top executives at Enbeat. Having promised Ryoei that she would help him once he trusts and remembers her again, Natsumi requested to become Ryoei's personal secretary. As they both spend more time together, Ryoei found himself falling for Natsumi once again, although he has no recollection of her and the memory they shared when he was a wandering spirit. However, things started to become dangerous for both Ryoei and Natsumi as they get closer to solving the mystery behind Ryoei's car accident. And when the Grim Reaper told Ryoei that Natsumi would die if they choose to stay together, Ryoei decided to distance himself from Natsumi.
Thoughts on the Drama...
I have not watched many Japanese dramas to date, but this drama definitely tops one of my favourite J-dramas and one that kept me waiting for the next episode! The chemistry between the main leads were really good and there were many heart-fluttering moments! I was initially drawn to watch this drama due to its interesting plot and I'm glad that I did. Although the drama was not very long, with each episode only lasting around 20 minutes, I would say the character developments of the main leads were pretty satisfactory and I really enjoyed watching the process of both Natsumi (in Part One) and Ryoei (in Part Two) taking turns to fall for the other person after losing their memories of each other. The only shortcoming of this drama was definitely how short each episode was, it would have been really nice if it was a full length one hour episode given how good this drama is! Also, I would suggest watching the two parts back-to-back, as the first part ended with a cliffhanger and it was a pain having to wait each week for an episode! However, I was slightly disappointed with the final episode, I felt like it ended abruptly and there were still some unasnwered parts, such as how it wasn't clear whether Ryoei had regained his memory of Natsumi, or what happened to the director or Mari's uncle. Though the second part of the drama was really good too, I personally enjoyed watching the first part more than the second. Lastly, the soundtrack from this drama was pretty good, especially the main theme song. All in all, I would definitely recommend watching this drama if you're looking for a romance/fantasy drama with some thriller, and something that is not too long!
