K-Drama Review: Nobody Knows

Nobody Knows 2020.jpg

Hey guys, I hope everyone has been well and staying safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. With so many countries going into lockdown since the beginning of the year, I finally have some time to catch up on some of the latest Korean drama! I finished watching Nobody Knows back was when it was broadcasted and surprisingly it turned out to be one of the my favorite K-Drama this year!

Nobody Knows is a 16-episode SBS Drama starring Kim Seo Hyeong, Ryu Deok Hwan, Park Hoon, and many more. I'm not usually a fan of mystery and crime drama but this drama was an exception as I really enjoyed watching this drama.

The story begins with 16 years old Cha Yeong Jin (portrayed by actress Kim Sae Ron) whose nest friend got killed by a serial killer in her place. After the incident, she received a phone call from her best friend's number believed to be from the serial killer who told her that there would be no more murders after her best friend. This made Cha Yeong Jin determined to catch the killer one day.

Fast forward to 20 years later, Cha Young Jin (portrayed by actress Kim Seo Hyung) is now a detective and she has been working on the Stigmata Serial Murder case which is believed to be linked to her best friend's murder 20 years ago. Her friend was the last victim and there haven't been any more murders just like what the killer told her on the phone 20 years ago.

A murder case that is believed to be linked to the Stigmata case occurred one day and Detective Cha is called to the site of the murder. There, she meets a pastor from a church known as the New Life Church whom she suspects is the serial killer of the Stigmata Serial Murders. However, before she could question the pastor, he jumped off a building in front of her and committed suicide. This incident then led to the discovery of the link between the New Life Church and the Stigmata Serial Murders and she begins to suspects there is an accomplice to the case.

At the same time, her neighbor who lives below her whom she befriends, 17-years old Eun Ho (portrayed by actor Ahn Ji Ho) was found to have fallen from a building at the Hotel that is owned by one of the directors at the New Life Church, Baek Sang Ho (portrayed by actor Park Hoon). Believing there is a link between this incident and the recent murder from the Stigmata Serial Murders, Detective Cha starts to investigate further with the help of Eun Ho's teacher, Lee Sun Woo (portrayed by actor Ryu Deok Hwan) and interesting discovery begins to unfold.

Reviews

I'm not usually a fan of crime/mystery theme drama but this drama is definitely an exception! This was my first time watching Kim Seo Hyung's drama and I have to say that I really like the character she portrayed here as a detective who is good at her job but has a warm and humane side to her. It was also really heartwarming to see her friendship with Eun Ho despite their huge age difference as they became good friends who understood each other really well. And the one of the best parts about this drama is definitely the unexpected plot twist as the story progresses and how the writer managed to link the two cases in quite a shocking and unexpected way. Though the story did become a little draggy towards the end, I like how the writer managed to hold the viewer's attention to watch until the very end to find out the whole story and how the murder actually unfolded.

Further Thoughts

I really like the chemistry between Detective Cha and Baek Sang Ho as detective and villain in this drama. It was definitely refreshing to see them act together. However, like most drama, it did got a little bit draggy towards the end but still managed to draw your curiosity to continue watching until the end.

Fun Fact

Did you know that Park Hoon and Park Min Jung are actually husband and wife in real life? I was really shocked to find out about this but they look really cute together especially on their SNS!
