Hey guys, so I've been catching up on some of KBS drama specials recently and decided to share a short review on some of the drama specials that are worth watching! :) If you've never heard about KBS drama specials, they are short dramas produced by KBS which are usually up to an hour long. (p.s. for international fans, you can watch KBS drama specials with English subtitles on KBS World's official YouTube channel)
1. Dancing the Waltz Alone 혼자추는왈츠
Starring: Moon Ga-Young, Yeo Hoi-Hyeon
Duration: 65 mins
Release Date: 24th September 2017
Synopsis:
Just like its title, the two main leads Min-Sun (portrayed by actress Moon Ga Young) and Gun-Hee (portrayed by actor Yeo Hoi-Hyeon), met in a Waltz class back in college when Min Sun's dancing partner didn't turn up for their dancing assessment. However, unlike your love at first sight kind of romance, their romance began after they ended up becoming dance partners. In return for replacing her dancing partner who didn't turn up, Min Sun promised that she would go out with Gun Hee. Although Gun Hee didn't seem interested in the idea, they ended up falling in love and have been dating ever since. Back to the present in 2017, both Min Sun and Geon Hee have been dating for the past 8 years. While Min Sun is now an intern at a large company, Gun Hee managed to secure a job at a mid-size company. Like any other long-time couples, they are now too comfortable with each other and frequently bicker over small and trivial matters. To make matters worse, Min Sun is worried about not being able to secure a permanent job position after her internship ends while Gun Hee is unhappy with his current job and is often mistreated by his co-workers. As they both ended up resigning from their current jobs, they found themselves as competitors when they unknowingly applied for the same job position at the same company after deciding to break up with each other. Would they be able get back together after all this or would this make things worse when competition and rivalry intervene with their already strained relationship?
Comments:
This was one of the first KBS drama specials that I watched in 2017. I really liked how the story had an interesting plot twist about the two main leads turning from lovers into competitors who are competing for the same job position at the same company. What are the odds of meeting your long-time boyfriend/girlfriend and having to compete with them in order to secure a permanent job right? This somehow portrays the reality of how society is today where graduates have no choice but to compete with their own peers and colleagues, or even lovers in this case, in order to secure a permanent job. The chemistry between the main leads was definitely a plus point and they managed to portray their roles well as a long-time couple who has been dating for several years. So far, this has been one of my favourite KBS drama special. I would definitely recommend watching this drama if you're looking for something refreshing yet realistic at the same time.

Synopsis:
Ujin (potrayed by actor Lee Sang Yeob) is a famous radio DJ and the owner of a bookstore called 'Late Night Bookstore'. On his wedding day, his bride, Seo Yeong (potrayed by actress Kim So-Eun) left him at the alter and goes for their honeymoon to Morocco alone. Left heartbroken, Ujin had been unable to accept the fact that the person he thought he knew so well had become a stranger when he couldn't understand the reason behind why she decided to leave him. One day, someone uploaded a photo of his fiance, Sun Yeong and an unknown man on his radio podcast website. While believing that Sun Yeong is in Morocco, Ujin decides to look for reasons why his fiance left him but ended up more heartbroken after going to places where they shared fond memories together. However, every time Ujin goes to their place of memory, he realizes that a strange woman who looks like Sun Yeong is secretly following him around. As Ujin slowly uncovers the truth, he learns of something about his fiance that he had never expected. Would Ujin be able to find his fiance, Seo Yeong, as he gets closer to uncovering the truth? What is important? Love or truth? Or is the phrase in the drama: "What is essential is invisible to the eye" the key to finding Sun Yeong.
Comments:
Compared to the other drama specials that I've watched, this one started off rather slow as the story continues to develop in a melodramatic way throughout. Nonetheless, the plot twist was rather unexpected as Ujin begins to uncover the whole truth behind the disappearance of his fiance, Sun Yeong. The major reveal was quite unexpected, yet didn't really feel like something very out of the ordinary to be honest. However, there were quite a few famous cameos that appeared in this drama special such as 2PM Tacyeon, Nam Goong Min and Kim Won Hae. This was quite surprising given that the drama is only an hour long, but definitely one of the plus point of this drama. I would recommend watching this drama special if you are looking to watch a mystery movie with an unexpected twist in the end.
