At First Glance: She Was Pretty

Hey guys, I recently came across this new drama called She Was Pretty 그녀는 예뻤다 and decided to start watching this new drama. I'm currently on the 8th episode, which the latest episode in South Korea. And I have to say that I am really enjoying this light, romantic comedy themed drama!

She Was Pretty 그녀는 예뻤다  is a 16-episodes new MBC Drama, starring Hwang Jung Eun, Park Seo Joon, Go Jun Hee and Choi Si  Won. The story is about Kim Hye Jin, portrayed by actress Hwang Jung Eun, who used to be a popular kid in school, an all-rounder who was good in everything. Whereas on the other hand, Ji Seong Jun, portrayed by actor Park Seo Jun, used to be a chubby boy who was a loser at school and was often bullied by his classmates.

Both Hye Jin and Seong Jun unexpectedly became best friends and each other's first loves. However, they were both separated when Seong Jun's parents emigrated to the US.
They kept in touch by exchanging letters until they lost contact one day, when Hye Jin's family became bankrupt and she had no choice but to move to a different place.

20 years later, Seong Jun is now a successful fashion director at MOST magazine firm. He is no longer the chubby fat boy whom Hye Jin had a crush on. However, on the other hand, Hye Jin is no longer the pretty kid in school, but had become a mess. She is no longer pretty and confident like she used to be when she was younger. She had become the total opposite, with a fussy hair, bad fashion sense and low confidence.

One day, Seong Jun found Hye Jin's information on some social media site and decided to give her a call. He wanted to meet up with his first love, Hye Jin, while he was on a business trip to South Korea for 3 months. Hye Jin was excited when she got a call from Seong Jun, and was looking forward to meeting her first love and best friend, Ji Seong Jun.

However, Hye Jin had forgotten about an important part, which is the fact that Seong Jun used to remember her as a pretty and confident girl. However, she is no longer her old self and she decided that it would be best not to show herself to her first love, Seong Jun, in fear that he would become disappointed in her current appearance. So instead, Hye Jin asked her BFF, Ha Ri, portrayed by actress Go Jun Hee to pretend to be her and to meet up with Seong Jun. Ha Ri is the total opposite of Hye Jin, who is both pretty and attracts a lot of guys' interest.

To the dismay of Hye Jin, she got employed at a company where she ended up being an intern at the MOST Magazine Firm. What she didn't know was that Seong Jun was the Deputy Director at the MOST Magazine Firm, and that she would be seeing him at work everyday.
As Seong Jun thinks of Ha Ri as the real Kim Hye Jin, he did not suspect nor saw Hye Jin to be the real 'Hye Jin' he had been looking for. Thus, he treats her coldly with no respect as she is just a mere intern who is clumsy and constantly makes a lot of mistakes as an intern.

And at the same time, Ha Ri has been seeing Seong Jun, behind Hye Jin's back, while pretending to be the real Hye Jin. Ha Ri found herself slowly falling for Ji Seong Jun and decided to start dating Seong Jun as the real 'Kim Hye Jin'. However, as fate has its role in life, Seong Jun found himself unexpectedly attracted to the intern Kim Hye Jin. He found himself slowly developing feelings Hye Jin and becomes confused as she reminds him of the real Kim Hye Jin. Kim Jin Hyuk, portrayed by actor Choi Si Won, plays an employee working at the MOST Magazine Firm. Jin Hyuk has a quirky personality and he finds himself attracted to the charming yet not pretty Hye Jin. Also, he unexpectedly found out the relationship between Hye Jin, Ha Ri and Seong Jun.

Will Hye Jin be able to hide her identity as the real Kim Hye Jin as she works in the same office as Ji Seong Jun? Will Seong Jun be able to realize that Hye Jin is the real Kim Hye Jin he has been looking for? What would happen to the friendship between Hye Jin and Ha Ri? And what about Jin Hyuk, who has a crush on Hye Jin and had unexpectedly found out about their complicated relationship between the other three? These questions will soon be answered as the drama develops further!

Thus, do stay tuned by watching this drama guys! ^^

Thoughts on the drama so far....

First things first, I am really enjoying this drama so far. And I have to say that the writer is really good at making the ending of each episode a cliffhanger, for example the major cliffhanger at the end of episode 8!! The theme and story line of the drama is quite a realistic one, as the appearance of people do change over the course of time. For example, Hye Jin and Seong Jun. However, one of the important lessons learnt from the drama thus far is that appearance does not matter and what does it the memories and personality of Hye Jin and Seong Joon. Another thing to note is that the writer managed to convey a light and heartwarming story about first loves and the reality of the real world in regards to appearance. Thus, I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this drama to you guys as the MUST WATCH drama this autumn! :)
