Korean Drama Review- Shark

I've just finished watching Shark 상어 a couple of days ago, and I can say that I am satisfied with this drama. Shark상어 has top one of my favorite Korean drama list. I would say that Shark 상어 is the one of the best revenge drama of 2013!

Shark상어 is a 20-episode revenge drama, starring Kim Nam Gil and Son Ye Jin as the main leads. Shark상어 combines a genre of melodrama, revenge, thriller, mystery and romance all together in one drama! And this is what makes the drama interesting and different from the normal melodrama or the normal kind of revenge drama you usually see in dramas.

The story begins 12 years ago, as it tells the love story between the two main characters, Yi Soo and Hae Woo. Yi Soo and his younger sister, Yi Hyun lives together with their father, at the same house as Hae Woo. Yi Soo's father is the chauffeur of the Gaya Hotel Group Chairman- Jo Sang Wook, who is Hae Woo's grandfather. Hae Woo is the only grandaughter of the Gaya Hotel Group. However, even though Hae Woo comes from a rich family, she has a broken family and she lives with a scar in her heart as her father is having an affair while her mother walked out on her and her father. She fell in love with Yi Soo. who was always there for her when she needed someone, and Yi Soo became her first love.

One day, Yi Soo's father was murdered while his father was on his way to the police station to confessed his crime. And while Yi Soo found something that he suspected to be the reason why his father got murdered, he got into an accident on the same day and he suddenly disappeared. Everybody believed that Yi Soo was dead, except for Hae Woo, who believes that Yi Soo is still alive somewhere.

12 years later, Hae Woo became a prosecutor, to find out the truth why her first love, Yi Soo, was murdered. Yi Soo, who has changed his identity, and is now the President of the Giant Hotel, returned to Korea on the day of Hae Woo's wedding. His Japanese name is now Yoshimura Jun, and his Korean name also known as Kim Jun. Hae Woo got married to her childhood friend, Joon Young. And Yi Soo began to carry out his revenge that he has planned for 12 years with one goal, to find out the truth why his father got murdered, and to take revenge for his father's death, by using his first love, Hae Woo. Thus, the battle between love and revenge begins.

PROS:

1. Kim Nam Gil's acting skills in the drama Shark상어is superb. I wasn't a fan of Kim Nam Gil when he became popular back in 2009 for his role of Bidam in the drama Queen Seon Deok. But after watching Shark상어, I have become a fan of Kim Nam Gil. Will definitely be anticipating more of Kim Nam Gil's future dramas as well as movies!

2. The chemistry between the two main leads, Kim Nam Gil and Son Ye Jin is sizzling good. Summer Scent was the very first drama when I noticed Son Ye Jin, followed by Personal Taste. Son Ye Jin has great chemistry with almost all of her male main leads, and also not excluding Kim Nam Gil! The chemistry of KNG and SYJ throughout the drama was great. And for those who are sad that the drama has ended, don't be! Because both KNG and SYJ will be starring together in their next movie, which is Pirates. So they will be bringing their chemistry onto their next project together.

3. This drama has a great list of OST! From Boa, Jung Dong Ha, and to Lim Jeong Hee, the drama's Ost will keep your player on repeat mode! I am a big fan of Korean Drama OSTs, and if you are a fan too, you would absolutely enjoy listening to Shark Ost. It will keep your player going on and on!

4. Last but not least, the story line of Shark 상어! The overall plot of the drama is interesting. The drama revolves around the mystery about finding out about the truth. This drama connects all the dots of every little details in the drama at the end and gives you a clear picture about the truth that the main characters have been looking for. This drama also shows you two side of the person getting revenge, Yi Soo. It shows us that the person getting revenge is also in pain and have their own reasons.

CONS:

1. The ending of the drama-I know many of you who have watched Shark may have been disappointed with the ending. At first, I was a bit disappointed with the tragic ending of Yi Soo at the last episode too. I also felt that the ending for certain characters in the drama was a little brief, for example, Chairman Yoshimura. But soon, I realized that maybe ending was what made this drama more meaningful.

2. The drama was a bit draggy at some points. This may be because of its melodrama theme of the drama. Melodrama tends to be have a sad and gloomy mood throughout the drama. But overall it was not too bad as the mystery was getting solved little by little as the drama was progressing towards the end.

RATINGS:

FUN FACTS:

1. Did you know that Shark 상어, is the third installment of the trilogy dramas, directed by Director Park Chan Hong and Writer Kim Ji Woo, which includes Resurrection in 2005 and The Devil in 2007?
